On 4 March 2011, the Greater Orlando Asian American Bar Association took part in a ceremonial event honouring three newly appointed circuit judges at the Orlando Marriott Downtown Hotel. The organisation joined twelve other voluntary bar associations in presenting welcome gifts to the judges.
GOAABA’s representatives — President Glenn Leong and President-Elect Jessica Hew — gave the honourees a black-framed art piece featuring the “Year of the Rabbit” theme as the association’s gift.
The three judges brought different professional backgrounds to the bench. Judge Mike Murphy transitioned from his previous role as a county judge, where he had served for six years before his appointment by then-Governor Charlie Crist. Circuit Judges Donald A. Myers, Jr. and Keith F. White both came to the judiciary after careers in private practice.
